There are three categories of action you can defined for a Folder Pair. You can specify one of the categories with either Folder Pair Wizard or Folder Pair Advanced Window (Actions Tab).
Folder Pair Wizard

Folder Pair Advanced Window (Actions Tab)

You can choose among the following three action categories:
1. Synchronize: Synchronize the "Location 1" and "Location 2" specified in the Folder Pair.
2. Backup: Make a backup copy of the "Source" folder to the "Destination" folder specified.
3. Merge and tidy up: Prepare a merge or tidy up a pair of folders.
You can further specify the default action details by clicking "Next" in the Folder Pair Wizard, or the lower section in the Folder Pair Advanced Windows Actions Tab. These details will be applied when the Folder Pair is Run.
Synchronize
"When conflicts occur"
A conflict occurs when Bamboo identifies files from both locations have been modified compared to historical sync records. You can choose which location (Location 1 or 2) to be used to over write the counter part. Or use modified date to determine (use the newer file to over write the older one). Or skip all conflicts by doing nothing. Note that if you choose to skip all conflicts, these files will still be conflict the next time you sync the Folder Pair since not action has been taken upon these files.
Finally, you can also leave the decision until the Folder Pair is really being Run and conflicts occur, by choosing "Ask me when execute". The execution will be paused and wait for you manual decision on these conflict entries to continue.
"Sync Operation" (Advanced)
You can choose to
- sync both ways (default); or
- only propagate changes from one location to another; or
- forcefully overwrite / reset a location to become the exactly copy of another location discarding any modification in the former.
"Control the propagation of new and deleted files" (Advanced)
When the Sync Operation is NOT forcefully overwriting, you can fine control whether to sync file creation or file deletion or not.
"Deletion overrides modification" (Advanced)
When deletion of files are being synced, and a file has been deleted in one location but modified in another, checking this option tells Bamboo to delete even the modified file. Otherwise the Bamboo will preserve the modified file and re-create the copy on the location where it had been deleted.
Backup
"Delete extra files in destination"
Delete any extra files in the Destination folder that does not exist in the Source folder.
"Skip identical files in destination"
If the files in the Destination folder already exist and appear to be identical according to historical execution records, skip those files. This saves time for copying unchanged files.
Merge or Tidy Up
"File/folder exists only on L1"
You can choose to copy these files/folders to L2; move to L2 (deleting from L1); simply delete these files/folders; or do nothing to them.
"File/folder exists only on L2"
You can choose to copy these files/folders to L1; move to L1 (deleting from L2); simply delete these files/folders; or do nothing to them.
"File/folder exists only on both locations"
You can choose to keep either L1's or L2's copy; move the file to the counter parting location but delete the location's copy; or do nothing to them.
Ad hoc Run Options Changes
You can further specify the default action details by clicking "Next" in the Folder Pair Wizard, or the lower section in the Folder Pair Advanced Windows Actions Tab. These details will be applied when the Folder Pair is Run. You can also be given the chance to override these default details before execution by choosing "Run With Options..." instead of "Run".
